Guest Rules, Risk & Indemnity

1Who this applies to

Every person on the property: overnight guests, campers, day visitors, spectators and anyone accompanying them. It covers game drives, river cruises and water activities, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, campfires and braais, and the use of all roads, trails, riverbanks and facilities.

2House rules

• Follow the instructions of staff and guides, all signs and safety briefings.
• Stay on designated roads, trails and campsites. Keep out of private or restricted areas.
• Never approach, feed, chase or touch wild animals.
• Leave plants, animals, rocks and nests undisturbed. Take your litter with you.
• Take care around water, cliffs, fires and moving vehicles. Use the safety gear provided.
• No activities under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Report any accident, injury, unsafe condition or dangerous animal to staff immediately.

Staff may stop or refuse anyone's participation if it becomes unsafe.

3Children

• Children under 3 may not take part in organised activities, including game drives, unless approved in advance.
• Older children are subject to the age, height and safety limits of each activity.
• Parents and guardians must supervise children at all times, especially near water, fires, roads and wildlife.

4Health, allergies and medication

• Tell your guide before an activity about any medical condition, injury, pregnancy or medication that could affect your safety.
• Tell us before arrival, and again before eating, about any food allergy or dietary requirement. Our kitchen cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.
• Keep any emergency medication (such as an EpiPen) with you.

5Risks you accept

Wildlife and snakes, uneven and slippery terrain, drowning and water hazards, bike falls and collisions, vehicle movement on game drives, fishing hooks, fire and smoke, heat, storms and lightning. This list cannot cover every risk in a wilderness area.

6Indemnity and waiver

You take part voluntarily and accept the ordinary, inherent risks of the activities you choose. To the extent South African law allows, you indemnify Mavuka Adventures, its owners, staff, guides and contractors against claims arising from your own failure to follow rules or instructions, your negligent or reckless conduct, or damage you cause to people or property. Nothing here removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

7Belongings and emergencies

• You are responsible for your own vehicle, valuables and belongings.
• If you are injured and cannot respond, you authorise us to arrange first aid, medical help or evacuation. Emergency services are far from the farm, and medical costs remain your responsibility.
• Activities may be changed or cancelled because of weather, water levels, fire risk or wildlife.
